Celebrating Success.....and the School in the Community
At Dovers Green we believe that every child is good at ‘something’ and it is our challenge to find the key to unlock this potential. Every week there are special assemblies to celebrate successes. At Sunshine Assembly children can share their good work and our Star of the Week Assembly builds self-esteem by recognising children who have tried their best, who have been helpful or kind to others or have demonstrated other values such as patience, honesty or good manners.
Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning and behaviour with achievements, effort, kindness and good behaviour acknowledged and rewarded throughout the school day. It is our policy that all staff ‘catch children being good’.
Children from each class are represented on our School Council or Eco Schools Committees. At School Council children voice their opinions and there is discussion about topical school issues. The Eco Schools Committee thinks about different ways to look after our world and share these ideas with their class.
Involvement in the community and the importance of giving as well as receiving is an important aspect of the children’s learning at Dovers Green. We support various charities and during the year children sing at Priors Mead Home to entertain the older folk.
Dovers Green Children’s Centre is located in our grounds and offers a comprehensive programme of support and activities for pre-school children and their parents.
‘Through their work as School Councillors and Eco Councillors, and when singing in the locality, these young people make an excellent contribution to the community. They certainly enjoy their education.’
